You Need To Do More Than Read The Bible To Receive Eternal Life.

Image
John 5:39-40 You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.  ( New King James Version) "The word "search" is  ereuano  in Greek, and means "to search, examine into." It can imply "to search by uncovering; to search minutely; to explore; to strip, to make bare; to search by feeling, by touch." "Homer, in  The Iliad , used this word to indicate a lioness and her dedication to her cubs. They were lost, and she was on a huge plain searching very carefully everywhere. In  The Odyssey , he used the same word to picture a dog tracking its prey - having its nose on the ground and never losing the scent. "Metaphorically, it can be used to describe one digging deep for treasure and precious metal, breaking every single clod that nothing would be missed. It means to shake and to sift until every meaning o...

The spirit of life was still in them, even though they had lain dormant for thousands of years.

Matthew 13:3-9 (3) Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying: "Behold, a sower went out to sow. (4) And as he sowed, some  seed  fell by the wayside; and the birds came and devoured them. (5) Some fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth. (6) But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away. (7) And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them. (8) But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. (9) He who has ears to hear, let him hear!" New King James Version     Change your email Bible version "The  seed  is the Word of  God , and its hitting the ground is not the end of the story. A variety of things can happen that will affect the growth of that seed. Some might fall on stone, others might be buried too deep. Rain may come a...

The Lord's Prayer Is A Spiritual Request.

Image
Matthew 6:11  -  Give us this day our daily bread. New King James Version     Change your email Bible version "This is apparently the only material request in the entire model prayer; all the other requests are for spiritual aid such as forgiveness, protection, and guidance. With this in mind, is  Jesus  telling us to ask for physical food every day? A literal meaning is often the most likely understanding, yet the continuing context of the chapter suggests He had more spiritual matters on His mind. Just a few verses later, in  Matthew 6:25-26 , 31, He teaches: Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? . . . Therefore d...

It takes only one sin for God to impose the death penalty!

Image
Hebrews 2:14-15 - "Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage." (New King James Version) "Some religions make no mention of Satan as a reality. Others include him as a reality and enemy, yet they make little or no accounting of him actively working to destroy mankind and God's purpose. Jesus makes no bones about Satan actively working to destroy men. In John 8:44 , in accusing the Jews of unbelief, He puts Satan's nature in plain words: ""You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the fa...

Compassion, Is A Fundamental and Distinctive Quality Of God

Image
Matthew 14:14 (14) And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick.    Mark 6:34 (34) And Jesus, when He came out, saw a great multitude and was moved with compassion for them, because they were like sheep not having a shepherd. So He began to teach them many things. New King James Version     Change Bible versions " Jesus  is "moved with compassion" when He sees the needy multitudes exhausted and wandering like sheep that had been tattered from cruel fleecing. Twice He is "moved with compassion" when He sees the hungry multitudes without food ( Matthew 14:14 ;  15:32 ). The two blind men ( Matthew 20:34 ) and the leper ( Mark 1:41 ) also stir His compassion, as does the sorrow of the widow at Nain ( Luke 7:13 ). "In addition, Jesus uses the word translated "compassion" in three of His  parables : The king has compassion on his bankrupt servant and f...

Jesus warns us that we will receive the same kind of judgment that we make of others.

Image
Matthew 7:2 (2) For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. New King James Version   Jesus  warns us that we will receive the same kind of judgment that we make of others. Do we really want that? That warning ought to sober any thinking person! Do we really believe  God  when He gives us such a stern warning? Jesus adds another warning: Our judgment may be distorted because we may have a flaw of far greater magnitude in us than the flaw we observe so critically in our brother. The unspoken intimation is that because the flaw is ours, and we love ourselves, we are willing to be lenient in our self-judgment. By focusing our criticism on another, it enables us to avoid scrutinizing ourselves carefully and critically. Some enjoy correcting others because it makes them feel virtuous, compensating for failures in themselves that they have no desire to face. But the j...

The Crucifixion and The Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Image
“Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.   But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:   For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.   (Matthew 12:38).     Jesus told them that the only sign He would give was that of the prophet Jonah: “For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth” (Matthew 12:40).   Jesus told them point blank that He was going to be in the tomb for three days and for three nights. We now come to the week Jesus was crucified.   “And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said unto his di...

Does It Really Matter What You Believe?

Image
The simple answer to this question is, yes it does.   To clarify the answer, it matters if you want to be a disciple of Jesus Christ and receive the gift of immortality and salvation to eternal life.   Immortality and salvation is a gift from God, given to us freely.   We cannot earn it.   But, there is one important thing that people forget.   God does not force us to take this gift.   We can accept the gift or we can refuse the gift.   If you do not care about this gift, then the answer to the question is that it really doesn’t matter what you believe.   You can believe whatever your heart desires.                 Using the Bible as a basis for this discussion, it tells us that that those who want to know and have a relationship with God should hold on to beliefs that are based on His laws and not compromise.   “Now by this we know that we know Him, if we ke...

What Will Heaven Be Like?

Image
There will come a time when we who are alive and remain shall be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.   When this happens, a paranormal event will occur.   It will be a supernatural event where our bodies will be transformed from mortal physical bodies into glorified spiritual bodies.   We will have ghostlike attributes with all the power associated with the spirit world.   We will be transformed and when this happens we will be under the protection of the Lord forever.                 When we are finally in heaven, in the paradise Jesus referred to while hanging from the cross, the Bible promises that God will wipe away every tear from our eyes and there won’t be any more death.   Pain and sorrow will be a thing of the past so there will be no more crying. The pain ...
